Hey everyone, finding time for hobbies can be quite a challenge, especially now with work and family challenges during lockdown. I wanted to share with you my passion for writing and the creative arts.
I have been writing for about 20 years now, which include screenplays and working on some pretty high end movies
I have hit the best sellers list on Amazon 5 times, twice actually hitting the number 1 spot on Amazon.
My last book was also my first foray into writing comics, I wrote a screenplay way back in the day (2012) called ‘Digitopia’.
I originally wrote it as a Mad Max meets The Matrix, thinking person’s high adrenaline action adventure movie about a father and daughter trying to get to safety in a civilisation that is imploding on itself.
Getting funding for it was really difficult due to the economic conditions of those times, film funding councils were pretty much closing their doors. Undeterred I continued anyway and directed two short animated films based on the screenplay, which you can see on my blog here http://www.digitopiafilm.com/directors-filmography/.
It was in about 2017 that I rekindled my relationship with comics, I decided back then I would rewrite Digitopia as a comic book.
I totally learnt a brand new writing style, let me tell you, screenwriting to comic book writing, totally different ball game.
In fact writing comic books is a totally different discipline to any of the previous forms of writing I’ve done.
I have learnt so much about storytelling from writing comic books, the story really flows across the page and page turns, the composition of each frame, the colour palettes used to define tone, pacing and mood, right down to when not to use captions and let the images tell the story – I would say writing comics is the ultimate form of storytelling.
I launched the Kickstarter for ‘Digitopia 1: Displaced Dreams’ back in April 2018, I was truly taken back by the amount of support I got on that campaign, the story really resonated and found an audience, happily we hit our full funding goal and went on to make one of the best comic books of the year.
In fact its Amazon launch saw it hit the best sellers list in three categories.
In whatever spare time I have, I am working on Issue 2, in fact issue 2 of Digitopia is now live on Kickstarter.
The Kickstarter for Digitopia 1 + 2 is now live for only a couple more weeks, be sure to get your copy before the campaign closes
I’ve set up loads of great rewards including
- catch up rewards (you can get issue 1 and issue 2)
- digital wallpaper and postcard art packs
- audio and video commentaries from the team
- your chance to be drawn in as a character in the book
It would be really wonderful if you’re able to join our journey here, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/farhanq/digitopia-comic-book-issue-1-and-issue-2
Essentially the number of orders I send to the printer will be based on the number of backers who order via the Kickstarter platform.
I hope you’ll be able to join me on this incredible journey and to tell your friends about this exciting book too.
