How to achieve self discipline and self control

by farhan Leave a Comment

Is it creativity, tenacity or self discipline that makes you into a great filmmaker/writer/animator/creative lead?

The truth is that it is a combination of the three.

What does having self discipline and self control actually mean in practice?

Is it something that you either have, is self discipline something you can harness or cultivate for yourself?  Self discipline and self control are actually the starting points of being able to achieve your dreams, so much so that the first chapter of my book ‘The 90 Second Life Coach‘ is all about self discipline and self control.

Let’s start with the video I made on this subject.

So here is chapter 1 of ‘The 90 Second Life Coach‘ book in its entirety for you.  The book is a fully structured life coaching book, where each chapter is designed to read in 90 seconds, here’s a sample for you.

Super course, engaging and empowering! Really enjoyed it. Love the fact it's bitesize sessions, a lesson in every lesson.

Zafar Q

Really inspired approach to modern day to day problems we all face..

Hashanka T

These sort of books aren't really my thing, but I got to say, a large amount of the content really resonated with me. A good aspect of this book is how quickly you can read the content, and yet pick up some meaningful tips. I'd say the book is a pretty good option when travelling on a train or coach. Surprisingly impressed....

Joel Mesherghi

Each chapter tells you briefly, what you need to know with enough content to get the message across and make it memorable. I particularly liked the chapters: "Daydream - a lot" and "Be what you want to be; don’t wait for permission". A new and risky approach to self-help but it definitely pays off.

Nadeem Ladha

It's great to able to learn in short digestable bite size chunks. I can relate to most of what is being taught. As it resonates with me, I am much more likely to practice the learnings in real life.

Muz Janoowalla

For those who genuinely want to improve their lives and their responses to life events, this course offers a great perspective in easy to understand lessons, with tips and techniques that can be re-visited until they become a habit.

Sabin Qureshi

A great course which gives really useful practical advice that is easy to implement. Really gets you thinking about changes you can make to improve your life. Also liked how it's broken into small concise sections making it easy to listen to on the move and more importantly remember!

Imran Q

This is a fantastic and refreshing self help course. It is structured and concise and really focuses on helping people unlock their potential. I found the bullet points really useful and the author is incredibly insightful in the way that he forces us to reprogramme our own thinking. Loved it and would highly recommend.

Chapter 1: You have total control over yourself

Events that go on in the world can be broken down into two groups:

  • things you can control and
  • things you can’t control

Things that fall into the first category include those relating to the world around you, for example, the weather, geo-politics, whether the train will be on time or whether they’ll be a traffic jam when you’re already late to work – you can’t control any of this.

But you can control yourself!

Specifically, you can control your reactions to whatever the world, whatever life, throws at you.

So what does that mean?

It means you can either choose to let these things affect you and get you down or you can choose not to be affected by any of the things you can’t control.

Either way, it’s your choice.

You can choose to start swearing at the train driver as he shuts the doors three seconds before you got there, or you can choose to say, ‘Okay, never mind, there’ll be another one in a few minutes so I’ll just chill out for a while.’

You can choose to get all defensive and tense when you see your boss ringing your phone or you can choose to say to her, ‘Hey what’s up? What can I help you with?’

While it can be difficult to control how you feel in any given situation, you do have total control over how you respond in any given situation – that’s pretty powerful.

you have total control over yourself

So here’s what I want you to do. The next time something happens that you are dreading, make a choice. You can either choose to let the event get you down, get you stressed out and depressed, and allow it to eat away and ultimately destroy you, or you can choose to say, ‘Oh well, never mind. These things happen. There was a valuable lesson in there for me – it made me stronger.’

Which choice do you think is going to improve your life?

Which choice is going to help you move forwards, feel happier, be more present, healthier, have a better life and achieve your dreams?

No one can choose for you. This is one of those things over which you have 100% total control – and that’s pretty awesome! Take back control over how you respond to events in your life.
